The Miss Universe Pageant will be held in Puerto Rico in 2026. The contestant for Puerto Rico, Miss Puerto Rico 2026, is Jennifer Barreto. Born in Mayagüez, Barreto was educated in Puerto Rico, completing college with degrees in psychology and social work. She began her career in Texas, where she served the Department of Defense as a crisis responder in the Ft. Hood Family Advocacy Program. She became a Prevention Specialist. She also volunteers with the Pediatric Diabetes Association of Puerto Rico.
Baretto decided to compete in the pageant a year before her win. She had no previous modeling or pageant experience. With her win in 2026, she became the first married woman to win the title. She is just the second mother to serve as Miss Puerto Rico.
Jennifer Barreto’s priorities
Barreto looks forward to welcoming the other candidates for Miss Universe as Puerto Rico’s representative. This opportunity appeals to her because, as she has said in numerous interviews, she sees the pageant as a continuation of her life goal: making a positive difference.
She used her social media account to share this purpose with the whole Island:
My beloved Puerto Rico,
I remember arriving at the Miss Universe Puerto Rico casting with a clear purpose, but also with so much to learn. I never imagined that first step would mark the beginning of one of the most transformative experiences of my life. From that day on, I realized this organization was so much more than a competition. I found a platform built on integrity, with values that deeply aligned with my commitment to service and the mission that has guided my life…Today, I wear a crown, but what I truly represent is a purpose. I am Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2026, and I will dedicate every day of this reign to honoring my island through service, integrity, and the pride of being Puerto Rican.
With love,
